e-Seminar Overview

Coaching parents is a fundamental part of early language intervention and professionals need to be effective coaches to help parents become their child’s primary language facilitator. This e-seminar provides an evidence-based framework you can use in your 1-1 sessions to coach parents of children with language difficulties.

The Hanen 4-Step Coaching Model draws on the most current research and incorporates principles of adult learning when coaching parents to make changes in their behaviour that “stick.”

This e-Seminar:

  • Outlines a process for how to coach parents to use responsive interaction strategies to support their child's communication development.
  • Uses video case studies that illustrate how the easy-to-follow Hanen 4-Step Coaching Model supports a parent to make long-term behaviour change.

e-Seminar Objectives

Upon completion of this 1.25-hour e-seminar, participants will be able to:

  • List four elements of effective parent coaching.
  • Describe the framework for setting child goals and selecting parent strategies when starting to coach a family.
  • Identify the purpose of each step of the Hanen 4-Step coaching model.
  • Apply the Hanen coaching model to a case study using video examples.
