About the Learning Language and Loving It™ Workshop

In this three-day Advanced Hanen Workshop, Hanen Certified speech-language pathologists/therapists (SLP/Ts) learn to provide effective, state-of-the-art group training to educators through Learning Language and Loving It – The Hanen Program® for Early Childhood Educators/Teachers, which integrates the principles of language facilitation with a child-centered approach to early childhood education. The program addresses the needs of all children, including those who are second language learners, who have language delays or are at-risk for language delay.

The Learning Language and Loving It workshop:

  • Is only for Hanen SLP/Ts who have taken the It Takes Two to Talk® Certification Workshop and have current certification.
  • Is aimed at SLP/Ts who work in early childhood and preschool settings
  • focuses on the provision of training that effectively facilitates educators' ability to promote children's social, language and early literacy development.
  • Includes information on fostering peer interaction, pretend (sociodramatic) play and abstract language that is critical to the acquisition of literacy.
  • Addresses the challenges of promoting interaction in a group context as well as in a one-to-one context.

Workshop Objectives

After completing the Learning Language and Loving It workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Lead Learning Language and Loving It – The Hanen Program for Early Childhood Educators/Teachers, which addresses prevention of language delays, early language intervention and language enrichment in early childhood settings.
  • Utilize principles of adult education to provide teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills to create optimal language learning environments for all children.
  • Plan and conduct interactive group sessions in the Learning Language and Loving It Program.
  • Assess videotaped teacher-child interactions in terms of teachers’ application of responsive strategies and provide constructive, informative feedback to teachers to facilitate generalization of strategy use.
  • Evaluate videotaped interactions in terms of application of responsive strategies using the ‘Teacher Interaction and Language Rating Scale’.

Workshop Format

Throughout the workshop, SLPs/SLTs participate in experiential, hands-on activities as the Instructor guides them through the process of leading a Learning Language and Loving It Program. IMPORTANT: Full attendance and participation in all three days of the workshop is mandatory.
