Professional Development
The Hanen Centre offers a number of options for Professional Development for Family Support Professionals:
Hanen Workshops
You Make The Difference Facilitator Training Workshop
In this 3-day workshop, Family Support professionals learn how to lead the YMTD Program, which helps parents learn to use responsive interaction strategies during their everyday interactions and conversations with their children. The goal of the program is to increase and enhance parent-child interaction, thereby creating an enriched language-learning environment, which builds the child’s social, language and literacy development. This enriches the parent-child relationship and sets the child up for future success, both inside and outside of school. Click here for more information.
Learning Language and Loving It Workshop
If you work in a community based program with a child care component, you may be interested in the Learning Language and Loving It Program, which offers professional development to Early Childhood Educators on facilitating children’s social, language and emergent literacy in early childhood settings. Click here for more information.
Hanen Presentation
You Make the Difference™ is not an early language intervention program, and is not meant to provide training to families of children who have identified language delays or special needs, but is a general educational program geared to improve parent-child communication and interaction as part of a broader prevention program or strategy.
The Hanen Centre’s Professional development centred on Intervention is only available to speech-language pathologists/therapists. However, if you work with a population of children with an identified language delay you may want to participate in or host a Hanen Presentation around topics such as; Autism, Language Development and Literacy for example.
