Starting Early... Red Flags and Treatment Tips for Toddlers on the Autism Spectrum
As more and more children are identified as being on the autism spectrum before age two, speech-language pathologists need to be very familiar with the very earliest stages of typical social and communication development, how to identify red flags, as well as how to provide appropriate early language intervention.
This e-Seminar introduces typical development of social communication in infants and toddlers and describes how to use these milestones to identify a child who appears to be at risk for ASD. The potential areas of concern displayed by the child at risk for ASD will be described in terms of social interaction, attention, communication, play skills and responsiveness to others. Using these primary areas of difficulty, appropriate social and communication goals for these toddlers will be identified. The key strategies from More Than Words® - The Hanen Program® for Parents of Children on the Autism Spectrum will then be presented, along with great video examples to demonstrate how to help parents learn to apply these strategies in order to facilitate their children’s achievement of these early communication goals.
Once we know how typical development of social communication unfolds in infants and toddlers, we are better equipped to identify red flags in children who appear to be at risk for autism, as well as to provide early intervention for them and their parents.
This live e-Seminar is for current Hanen certified members only. If your membership is not current and you would like to participate in this e-Seminar, please log into the MyHanen webportal to renew online. If you require additional information on renewing, please email membership@hanen.org.
