Hanen is Hiring an Autism Services Program Director

We are looking for a dynamic, talented Hanen Certified speech-language pathologist, who is ready to assume responsibility for the More Than Words® and TalkAbility™ portfolios. The Autism Services Program Director will spearhead the growth of these two programs and other autism-related resources and trainings. As part of a team of Program Directors, you will have opportunities to develop and refine programs, trainings and resources of the highest quality and to participate in new initiatives that will help The Hanen Centre expand its reach worldwide.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Autism Services Program Director is responsible for:

  1. Content Creation – ongoing creation of content related to their portfolio. This includes undertaking program development, program revisions, developing or revising program-related resources such as parent guidebooks, Leaders Guides, online modules or other electronic resources, as well as developing new trainings, presentations, e-Seminars and other eLearning products
  2. Member Support – offering support and information to Hanen SLPs worldwide via e-mail or phone, creating member-only resources, planning and leading online member meetings on a variety of autism-related topics, writing articles for the member newsletter, etc.
  3. Instructing Certification Workshops – the Program Director leads More Than Words and TalkAbility certification workshops
  4. Workshop Development/Refinement and Instructor Leadership –  the Program Director is responsible for the quality of the trainings and workshops in her/his portfolio, and for revising these workshops as needed (e.g. when new research is published, when the program undergoes a revision, etc.). S/he is also responsible for recruiting and training new instructors, as well as updating the current group of instructors, who lead More Than Words and TalkAbility workshops around the world
  5. Research – the Program Director is expected to seek out research partners in the academic community and to participate in research on the More Than Words and TalkAbility Programs.
  6. Represent The Hanen Centre in Local and International Communities – this includes developing and offering presentations on More Than Words and TalkAbility programs and related topics on autism at conferences and conventions

Employment Requirements:

  • Language: English
  • Education: Master’s degree
  • Experience: 5 years or more 
  • Ability to Supervise: 1-2 people
  • Security and Safety: Valid passport 
  • Transportation/Travel Information: Valid Driver’s license, Willingness to reside in Toronto or the Greater Toronto Area, Travel - will be required to travel at least six times a year both within Canada and to other countries/regions, including US, UK, Ireland, The Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Germany, Scandinavia, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South America, Middle East and Far East. Travel costs will be covered by The Hanen Centre
  • Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: This position requires the ability to work under pressure and to pay attention to detail. There is a large workload 
  • Work Location Information: Willing to relocate, Urban areas, Toronto (Relocation costs covered by employer)

  • Specific Skills: More Than Words and TalkAbility certification, with experience offering at least four full More Than Words programs (at least two of which should be the revised 2016 version) and two TalkAbility programs in the past 3-5 years. Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the delivery of social and community service programs, Direct and advise professional and non-professional staff; Establish administrative procedures for programs and workshops in the portfolio; Develop the structure, content and objectives of new programs or trainings; Deliver presentations at conferences, workshops or symposia; Teach courses and deliver presentations at conferences, workshops, symposiums; Experience and interest in content creation – this includes program, training or resource development; Some experience conducting research or exposure to research; Familiarity with current research on intervention for young children on the autism spectrum; Demonstrated creativity and initiative; High level analytical and problem-solving skills; Excellent computer skills, including facility with PowerPoint
