Position: Senior Speech-Language Pathologist for Autism Services

Job type: Full-time



This is a senior full-time position for someone with solid clinical experience working with children on the autism spectrum, which includes offering the More Than Words® Program. Experience leading the TalkAbility™ Program is an asset. Reporting to the Director for Autism Services, this position is ideal for someone who has several years of clinical experience, possibly some managerial experience and some involvement in program or product development. This position involves working remotely unless the successful candidate lives in the GTA or close to Toronto. In that case, there could be some in-person meetings and intermittent attendance at the office.


Primary Responsibilities
  1. Content creation
This involves working closely with the Program Director, as well as collaborating with marketing and/or membership staff on the following:
  • Program development and revision
  • Program-related resources – develop cutting-edge, research-based resources (primarily electronic) based on identified needs. This may involve development of resources for use within a program but may also involve creating standalone resources
  • E-seminars – related to the program and portfolio content
  • Member resources – e.g., tutorials
  • Presentations – related to the program and portfolio content
  • Other – as technology evolves!
  1. Member support
Contribute to member support by:
  • assisting with the development of new member benefits
  • assisting with or leading online member meetings
  • contributing articles to the Wig Wag member newsletter
  • offering clinical support and information to Hanen SLPs worldwide
  • assisting with the development of updates and online trainings for Hanen SLPs
  • writing for the website, as required
  1. Research
Since The Hanen Centre is committed to offering evidence-based interventions, the Senior SLP contributes to research projects in a variety of ways, as required.
  1. Workshop development/refinement and instructor leadership
The goal is for the Senior SLP to become a More Than Words® instructor and to support the Program Director in all aspects of workshop development and instructor leadership, including assisting with:
  • the refinement of workshop content, process and written materials; and
  • the communication of new developments regarding workshops to Instructors
  1. Promotional activities
The Senior SLP plays a major role in promoting the portfolio’s program/s, workshops and resources by:
  • developing presentations that create awareness of and interest in the programs, workshops and resources
  • participating in the creation of promotional materials
  • submitting annually to and presenting at conferences, especially ASHA
  • attending conventions and manning the Hanen booth
  1. Support SLPs
The Senior SLP may provide support and clinical guidance to SLPs at The Hanen Centre.
  1. Maintaining clinical skills
This will include offering one or more Hanen programs within the portfolio annually.
  1. Other responsibilities, as assigned

Key Requirements
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in speech-language pathology (CASLPO license is required)
  • Current Hanen membership
  • Hanen certification in the More Than Words®  program; Certification in TalkAbility™ is an asset
  • Approximately 7 – 10 years of clinical experience
  • Experience leading More Than Words® Programs (2016 version)
  • Experience leading TalkAbility™ is an asset
  • Curiosity and openness to expanding current skill set
  • Management experience is an asset
  • Experience offering presentations to professional audiences is an asset
  • Experience in program and resource development is an asset
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent administrative and time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent writing skills – for both professional and public audiences
  • Superior interpersonal skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including facility with PowerPoint – facility with editing software is an asset
  • Ability to undertake travel as needed
