Job type: Contract position

Location: United Kingdom/Ireland

Are you a passionate speech and language professional who is dedicated to changing the lives of families of children with autism and other social communication difficulties? Join The Hanen Centre’s expanding team of Workshop Instructors and train the next generation of Hanen-certified professionals!

What you’ll be doing

Hanen Instructors lead online workshops for English-speaking participants around the world. Using the Zoom platform, you’ll lead dynamic and interactive certification workshops that have been re-developed for online delivery. You’ll train professionals to lead the More Than Words® Program for families of children with autism and to use the Hanen approach with families in their communities.

Interested in a challenge?

This is an exciting role that requires a significant time commitment. Training for the position can take between 10-18 months and includes auditing a workshop and co-leading a number of workshops with a senior instructor. Once you are a Workshop Instructor, you will offer approximately 6 online workshops each year.

You’ll love this role if you:

  • believe in the value of equipping parents of children with autism with the skills to be effective language facilitators.
  • are comfortable presenting in an online setting.
  • enjoy meeting new people and making connections.
  • are looking for a personal and professional challenge by learning new teaching, organizational and networking skills.

  • More Than Words certification and current Hanen membership.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Facility using online platforms such as Zoom.
  • Extensive experience assessing and working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families.
  • You need to have offered at least two full (non-adapted) More Than Words programs to groups of parents in the last 4 years as per the cooperative agreement. At least two of these should have been the 2016 version.

Training Requirements

Five training workshops plus an audit – You must be able to commit to an audit of a More Than Words online workshop plus five training workshops in a 12 to 18-month period. We try to provide this training within a relatively short time frame in order to facilitate transfer of learning from one workshop to the next. Training workshops involve co-leading parts of the workshop with a senior instructor, taking on increasing amounts of instruction and getting support and feedback throughout. Once you’ve successfully completed these five workshops, you’ll be considered a "full" instructor and can lead workshops on your own.
Please note that significant preparation time will be required and is on the Trainee Instructor’s own time.
